Training 212 is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Vocational Assessor / Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) to support the assessment and quality assurance of vocational qualifications across a range of sectors.
The successful candidate will assess learner evidence, provide developmental feedback, complete assessment documentation, undertake internal quality assurance activities and ensure that assessment decisions meet awarding organisation and regulatory requirements.
This role is suitable for an experienced assessor and IQA who can work independently, manage a learner caseload and maintain high standards of quality, compliance and learner support.
Job description
Training 212 is looking for a competent and experienced Vocational Assessor / IQA to support learners undertaking regulated vocational qualifications.
The role involves assessing learner knowledge and competence, reviewing portfolios and workplace evidence, conducting observations where required and completing internal quality assurance activities to ensure that assessment is valid, reliable, fair and consistent.

Key responsibilities
- Managing an allocated caseload of learners.
- Conducting learner inductions and initial assessment where required.
- Supporting learners to understand qualification requirements.
- Developing assessment plans with learners.
- Assessing learner knowledge, skills and occupational competence.
- Reviewing assignments, work products, witness testimonies, professional discussions and other evidence.
- Conducting workplace or remote observations where appropriate.
- Making assessment decisions against qualification criteria.
- Ensuring assessment evidence is authentic, valid, current and sufficient.
- Providing clear, constructive and developmental feedback.
- Supporting learners to address gaps in evidence.
- Tracking learner progress and identifying learners who require additional support.
- Maintaining regular contact with learners.
- Ensuring learners make appropriate progress towards agreed completion dates.
- Maintaining accurate assessment records and audit trails.
- Completing assessment documentation within required timescales.
- Using e-portfolios, learner management systems and digital assessment platforms.
- Participating in internal quality assurance and standardisation activities.
- Sampling assessment decisions where acting as an IQA.
- Developing and maintaining risk-based IQA sampling plans.
- Providing feedback to assessors.
- Monitoring assessor performance and consistency.
- Observing assessment practice where required.
- Supporting new or less experienced assessors.
- Identifying quality concerns and agreeing corrective actions.
- Monitoring completion of IQA actions.
- Ensuring assessment and IQA practices meet awarding organisation requirements.
- Supporting EQA or awarding organisation visits.
- Implementing actions arising from EQA reports.
- Participating in standardisation meetings.
- Supporting continuous improvement of assessment materials and processes.
- Maintaining occupational competence in relevant vocational areas.
- Maintaining appropriate CPD records.
- Keeping up to date with changes to qualifications, assessment requirements and regulatory guidance.
- Ensuring learner work is appropriately checked for authenticity and potential plagiarism or inappropriate AI use.
- Following safeguarding, equality, diversity, data protection and malpractice procedures.
- Reporting any suspected malpractice or assessment irregularities.
- Maintaining confidentiality of learner and centre information.
- Working collaboratively with tutors, assessors, IQAs, administrators and centre management.
Requirements
Applicants should have:
- A recognised assessor qualification, such as:
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
- Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement
- A1
- D32/D33
- or another recognised equivalent.
- A recognised IQA qualification for candidates undertaking IQA responsibilities, such as:
- Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
- Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

- or another recognised equivalent.
- Relevant occupational competence within the subject areas being assessed.
- Experience assessing vocational qualifications.
- Experience conducting internal quality assurance activities.
- Good understanding of assessment principles.
- Good understanding of internal quality assurance principles.
- Ability to make consistent and evidence-based assessment decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational and caseload-management skills.
- Ability to meet assessment and quality assurance deadlines.

Desirable
The following would be advantageous:
- Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working with multiple awarding organisations.
- Experience with organisations such as Pearson, Highfield, NCFE, City & Guilds, TQUK, SFJ Awards or similar.
- Experience supporting EQA visits and centre audits.
- Experience developing assessment materials.
- Experience delivering remote assessment and professional discussions.
- Experience supporting trainee assessors or IQAs.
- Experience with apprenticeship or workplace-based assessment.
- Strong knowledge of regulated qualifications and Ofqual requirements.
- Experience working across multiple vocational sectors.
- Experience conducting learner observations in the workplace.
