Job Summary

Security 212 is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Freelance SIA Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) to support the quality assurance of our SIA licence-linked security qualifications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for sampling assessment decisions, monitoring trainers and assessors, reviewing learner evidence and course documentation, conducting standardisation activities and ensuring that delivery and assessment remain compliant with SIA, awarding organisation and Security 212 quality requirements.

This is a flexible freelance position suitable for an experienced security-sector IQA who can provide reliable remote and face-to-face quality assurance support.

Job Description

Security 212 is looking for a competent and experienced Internal Quality Assurer to support the delivery of SIA licence-linked qualifications, including programmes within Door Supervision, Security Guarding and related security training.
The IQA will play a key role in maintaining the integrity, consistency and quality of assessment across our training provision.

Key responsibilities will include:

  •  Developing and implementing appropriate IQA sampling plans based on risk. 
  •  Sampling learner assessment evidence and assessment decisions. 
  •  Checking that assessment decisions are valid, reliable, fair and consistent. 
  •  Reviewing portfolios, practical assessment records, observation records and other assessment documentation. 
  •  Monitoring trainers and assessors through observations and quality assurance activities. 
  •  Conducting observations of assessment practice where required. 
  •  Providing constructive written and verbal feedback to trainers and assessors. 
  •  Identifying good practice and areas requiring improvement. 
  •  Monitoring actions arising from previous IQA activities. 
  •  Ensuring assessment and delivery comply with relevant qualification specifications. 
  •  Ensuring centre practices meet applicable SIA and awarding organisation requirements. 
  •  Reviewing course files and ensuring required documentation has been completed correctly. 
  •  Checking attendance records, learner identification procedures and assessment records where applicable. 
  •  Reviewing practical assessment arrangements and evidence. 
  •  Monitoring the quality of conflict management and physical intervention assessment where within your occupational competence. 
  •  Maintaining accurate IQA records and audit trails. 
  •  Participating in and, where appropriate, leading standardisation meetings. 
  •  Supporting trainers and assessors with qualification and assessment requirements. 
  •  Identifying assessment inconsistencies and agreeing appropriate corrective actions. 
  •  Supporting the development of new or less experienced assessors. 
  •  Ensuring assessment malpractice or suspected malpractice is appropriately identified and escalated. 
  •  Supporting centre management with awarding organisation EQA activities and quality visits. 
  •  Reviewing EQA reports and assisting with the implementation of required actions. 
  •  Supporting continuous improvement across the centre. 
  •  Maintaining confidentiality and secure handling of learner and assessment information. 
  •  Maintaining current occupational knowledge of the UK private security industry. 
  •  Maintaining appropriate CPD records. 
  •  Keeping up to date with changes to SIA licence-linked qualifications and awarding organisation requirements. 

The position is offered on a freelance basis, and assignments will be allocated according to qualification requirements, course activity, geographical availability and the individual's occupational competence.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  •  A recognised Internal Quality Assurance qualification. 
  •  Ideally the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice, Level 4 Certificate in Leading the IQA of Assessment Processes and Practice, V1, D34 or another recognised equivalent. 
  •  Knowledge and experience of vocational assessment and internal quality assurance. 
  •  Experience within the UK private security industry. 
  •  Good understanding of SIA licence-linked qualifications. 
  •  Good understanding of awarding organisation quality assurance requirements. 
  •  Ability to develop and maintain effective risk-based sampling plans. 
  •  Ability to provide clear, constructive and evidenced feedback to assessors and trainers. 
  •  Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills. 
  •  Ability to work independently and meet quality assurance deadlines. 
  •  Good written and verbal communication skills. 
  •  Competence using electronic learner records, portfolios and quality assurance systems. 
  •  Willingness to attend standardisation and quality meetings. 
  •  Evidence of continuing professional development. 

Current SIA guidance accepts specified IQA qualifications including the Level 4 IQA awards/certificate, V1, D34 and L&D 11; it also recognises the relevant IQA principles unit in specified circumstances. 

Existing trainers, assessors and internal quality assurers involved in SIA licence-linked provision must complete at least 40 hours of relevant CPD each year and be able to evidence this activity. Delivering training itself does not count towards those 40 hours. 

Desirable

  •  Current or previous experience IQAing Door Supervisor and Security Guard qualifications. 
  •  Experience with awarding organisations such as Pearson, Highfield, SFJ Awards, QNUK or Trident Awards (LASER). 
  •  Assessor qualification such as Level 3 CAVA, A1 or D32/D33. 
  •  Teaching qualification such as Level 3 AET or equivalent. 
  •  Experience quality assuring practical assessments. 
  •  Experience with conflict management and/or physical intervention qualifications. 
  •  Experience supporting EQA visits. 
  •  Experience developing assessors and trainers. 
  •  Current or recent operational security experience. 
  •  Current relevant SIA licence where applicable. 

The SIA currently recognises Highfield, Pearson BTEC, QNUK, SFJ Awards and Trident Awards (LASER) for relevant licence-linked security qualifications.
